Success story:

Douglas Bader Foundation

“Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t do this or that. That’s nonsense…”(Sir Douglas Bader)
We raised: Over 3.5 Million to date

The Douglas Bader Foundation provides support for children who have suffered an amputation, are physically disabled or have learning disabilities. The Bader Braves project was created to acknowledge the bravery of these special children. Children with disabilities can often feel precluded from fully participating in mainstream life.

The ethos of the charity has always been about “inspiration” and it’s this “can do” attitude that we see as being Sir Douglas’s most important message and the message we have tried to preserve with the creation and on-going work of the Foundation in his name. We are completely reliant on donations to fund our activities and continue to add and create new initiatives with the funds available to us. Initiatives that we feel are fitting legacies of the man that we knew and watched overcome his disability though his own determination and effort as an inspirational example to both disabled and able bodied people.

Projects

Bader Braves Project – The Bader Braves project was created to acknowledge the bravery of these special children and is an on-going project. Children with disabilities can often feel excluded from fully participating in mainstream life and we would like to offer these brave children with the opportunity to take part in the exciting Bader Braves activities we provide such as Sailing and Flying days.

Gifts of Inspiration – This initiative provides practical support for the pursuance of achievements by those with disabilities. The scheme is a very important aspect of the Douglas Bader Foundation’s work and every year we give support to organisations, groups and individuals to enable them to pursue a wide variety of goals and dreams in diverse areas ranging from the arts, sport and recreation to small businesses.
